Before joining Mixte, Ari (they/them) volunteered for a handful of CBOs and NPOs in the San Diego region. They have worked for two different San Diego government agencies: SANDAG and the County of San Dego’s Environematl Health Department. They also briefly worked for a philanthropy-servicing organization where they had the opportunity to support local, small and minority-owned businesses that have been impacted by the global pandemic, helping local business owners secure grants provided by the CARES Act.

Born and raised on Kumeyaay land (San Diego region), Ari is a Latinx, first-generation college graduate and a queer person of color who has naturally gravitated towards social justice issues and campaigns. For a few years Ari supported the work of UCSD’s BLUM Cross Border Initiative where they presented two different neighborhood plans that incorporated small but mighty green infrastructure projects and programming that supported active transportation mobility.

On their time off, Ari enjoys being outdoors whether going on a bike ride through the city, hiking local trails, or catching the sun’s rays at a community park – Ari takes full advantage of the public spaces that are made available to them and hopes to see more community amenities pop-up in the south bay communities of San Diego.

Ari holds a BA in Socio-Cultural Anthropology and Urban Studies & Planning from UC San Diego.

They value accountability, collaboration, equity, and sustainability.
