I’m Brandi Riley, a communications manager based in Oakland, California, with almost 20 years of experience in digital media, content strategy, and trust & safety work.
Over the years, I’ve found myself in spaces where I’ve had to ask hard questions—usually the ones no one else wants to say out loud. Questions like, “If Black Lives Matter, why aren’t they represented in your leadership?” and “Why aren’t doctors listening to Black mothers?” Those questions come from a place of deep care and a commitment to racial justice. For me, this work has always been about making sure people—especially Black women—are seen, heard, and protected.
I’ve helped shape policies that make online communities safer, uplifted women’s voices at major media platforms, and tried to hold the door open wider wherever I go. I approach every project with both strategy and care—zooming in on the details, but always keeping the larger goals of equity and justice in sight. And if it becomes clear that equity isn’t on the table? I have no problem walking away and creating space elsewhere.
My passion for Black maternal health, reproductive rights, and equity in the workplace is personal. These aren’t just issues I work on—they’re connected to my own story, my family, and my community.
When I’m not deep in this work, I’m usually out on a trail somewhere in the Bay Area, browsing the shelves at the library, or thrifting with my husband and our two kids.
