A Surf a Day Keeps The Blues Away

Mia surfing

We all have our things that keep us sane and make us happy. You know, the thing you do when nothing else makes sense. The thing that makes you forget about everything else. But do we all have jobs that encourage us to do this as often as possible and trust us to make the best decisions to integrate it into our day?

For me, surfing fills this void. When life feels crazy as life has a funny way of doing, surfing centers me. It grounds me, ironically, when I’m in the water. mixte-san-diego-surf

When the summer sun shines and the days are long, a surf in the morning sets me up for a day of clarity and enthusiasm. Luckily, Mixte’s culture supports adventure and sees the value in having happy employees and happy mindsets. Another company may tell you to save your hobbies for the weekend, and it wouldn’t seem unusual.

In fact, we become the unusual ones because we don’t want to cultivate a work environment that encourages “living for the weekend.” We think you should “live” every day of your life, weekday to weekend, 9-5 and off the clock. And when your work just so happens to line up with what makes you feel alive, then you’ve really hit the jackpot.

And so I surf in the morning’s to bring the best version of myself to my clients, my colleagues and the work that we do. What I’m trying to say is as simple as this: I’m happy and I know it. I’m grateful and I won’t forget it.
