We One Up’d Bike to Work Day in Ocean Beach. We Added Bike From Work Day in Point Loma.

Mixte team biking near the beach

Undeniably, my favorite holiday of the year falls on Friday, May 29.

I know. You don’t get the day off work. Neither do we.

It would defeat the purpose of the holiday. Friday, May 29 is Bike to Work Day in San Diego County.

What is Bike to Work Day?

This San Diego-based public relations company is super stoked, totally excited, beyond belief that we get to host Ocean Beach’s one-and-only Bike to Work Day Pit Stop. If you’re a Bike to Work Day newb, don’t fret–you can catch up at iCommute’s website on all the details, including a place to sign up to win prizes for riding your bicycle to work on Friday, May 29.

Once in you’re in the know, you’ll know why you don’t want to miss the Mixte Pit Stop at the corner of Sunset Cliffs and Voltaire boulevards. In partnership with Point Loma’s hidden gem, The Wine Pub, we’re hosting free goodies and some games to win prizes. What games you may ask? Well, Spin the Wine Bottle and Drop the Cork in the Bucket, to name a few.

Join the Mixte Bike Train at 7:45 a.m.

With local bicycling advocate and inspiration, Nicole Burgess, we’re leading a bike train from Mixte up Voltaire St. to Dana Middle School, past San Diego Bike Coalition’s Pit Stop at the Donut Bar (what we like to call a “fuel” stop) with a final destination at SANDAG’s office at 401 B Street, San Diego, 92101.

Riders will meet at 7:45 a.m. at 4827 Voltaire (Mixte) and will be at SANDAG by 9 a.m.

If you’re starting in Point Loma, you can join the bike train around 8:30 a.m. at Dana Middle School.

Leading the train, Nicole will maintain a slow and very fun pace to accommodate cyclists of all abilities and ages and will uncover a bike-friendly route from OB/Point Loma into downtown.

We welcome bicycling enthusiasts; moms, dads and their kids who attend Dana; beginning riders who are biking to work for the first time; and anyone who truly made May 15 a real holiday and took Friday off. If you live in OB and Point Loma and have always wanted to try biking to work, we highly recommend learning from Nicole–who only commutes by bike… everywhere.

But wait. There’s more. Celebrate Bike FROM Work Day

You should know by now that’s not enough for your friends at Mixte.

We one up’d Bike to Work Day because we believe every Bike to Work Day should end with Bike From Work Day.

Meet us at The Wine Pub in Point Loma, where we’ll relax with a few rewarding glasses of wine, pints of beer and tasty treats with friends. Andy Hanshaw, executive director of the Bike Coalition, promises to be there with unending high fives to celebrate your big accomplishments. And so will we.

From 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Bike From Work Day, Sandy Hanshaw, the adorable owner of The Wine Pub and bicycling supporter, will reward each cyclists with an extended happy hour, including $3 cans of Shift and gourmet happy hour bites for only $4. Check out the menu here and you’ll see why you don’t want to miss out.
