Introduction
Nearly one in four people in San Diego County is nutrition insecure, or unable to secure three healthy meals a day. This data comes from the San Diego Hunger Coalition, which leads research and advocacy to fight hunger in a region that’s close to home for us.
Our Objectives
Our objective was to lead communication strategy for the San Diego Hunger Coalition and provide both digital marketing and media relations. The ultimate goal was to generate more awareness of nutrition insecurity in San Diego, attract broad support for efforts to fight hunger and communicate to key audiences the different ways to tackle the problem.
The Outcome
We supported the San Diego Hunger Coalition for nearly a year with digital marketing and website support, as well as proactive media relations. We put together a strategic plan with deep insights on key audiences in the region, and secured stories in some of the largest media publications in San Diego County.
Through our public relations tactics, we scored placements in San Diego’s largest media outlets, as well as more non-regional publications such as the Public News Service. Our digital marketing tactics allowed us to reach thousands of new audience members across social media platforms. And, our deep well of communications knowledge helped us advise the Hunger Coalition’s leadership on advocacy and strategy.
Our work also extended to helping the Hunger Coalition put on their 2022 State of Hunger event — an annual capstone of their advocacy and research — by live-tweeting the event, pitching media and even finding a keynote speaker.
