Introduction
When Mixte met the Equinox Center, it was using its research to advance progressive policies in San Diego at the intersection of the environment and business. Many local organizations relied on data from the Equinox Center to improve the quality of life in San Diego, but the organization had trouble expanding beyond its circle of science and becoming a well-known and trusted voice in the media.
Through consistent presence in the news, the Equinox Center evolved into a reliable voice for a spectrum of issues from water quality to air pollution. We eventually ushered the organization into a successful merger, which it carefully looks to as a statewide growth model.
