Introduction

For years, the League of Women Voters San Diego has protected the freedom to vote in fair and safe elections throughout San Diego County.

Beginning in the 2022 midterm election, San Diego County implemented new voting centers, which changed where residents could cast their vote if they choose to vote in person. Voters who already face significant barriers to voting, including voters who are young, Black, Latino/a/x, disabled, or who are an immigrant, senior or who don’t own a car, risked not getting up-to-date information in time to be able to vote.

Our Objectives

Partner with LWVSD to identify the most effective ways to reach communities across San Diego that are most disadvantaged by the change from neighborhood polling places to the new voting centers.

The Outcome

Here’s how we did it:

  • With a very limited budget and strong community partnerships, we created a digital toolkit that all partners could use to reach community members with a clear and consistent message and easy-to-follow information on where and how to vote using the new voting centers
  • Provided strategic counsel on raising awareness among communities with limited access to social media and the internet
