Introduction
The past couple of years have seen a tsunami of transphobic legislation: bills that banned trans and non-binary people (especially youth) from accessing essential healthcare, using restrooms, playing on sports teams, or even changing identity documents to finally reflect who they are.
Keeping up with all these bills and policymakers who pass them nationwide? Overwhelming. That’s exactly where the Trans Formation Project stepped in.
Its volunteer team of researchers, legal experts, and data analysts track every trans-related bill that elected officials introduce from coast to coast. They then issue a weekly newsletter tracking the status of each bill as well as reports featuring plain-language commentary that helps people understand how these bills would impact them and their families.
We knew raising awareness of this team’s vital work would not only help hundreds more people know to look to them as a resource but increase awareness of the vital work they do. Coverage about their work, as of right now, has been limited to just trans-focused recognition days, rather than about how their work is changing lives.
Our Objectives
- Secure at least one feature placement in a major news outlet outside of trans-focused recognition days
- Raise awareness of TFP and its research and analysis of transphobic legislation and policymakers
- Introduce TFP to new audiences
The Outcome
While our work has only just begun, we’ve already begun to identify great media opportunities and are looking forward to seeing the difference we can collectively make for our trans friends, colleagues and loved ones.
